Basic parameters for TFT LCD display
Liquid crystal display (LCD) is the earliest developed and commercialized product in FPD. At present, thin film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT LCD) has become the mainstream product in LCD applications. The development of TFT LCD has experienced a long basic research stage. 1、 Display size: the display size of TFT LCD refers to the diagonal length of the actual visible area, in inches, which is abbreviated as inches (1 inch = 2.54 cm).
2、 Aspect ratio: aspect ratio is the ratio of the length and width of the visible area of TFT LCD, also known as the screen ratio. The aspect ratio of TFT LCD is mainly 4:3, 5:4, 16:10 and 16:9. The ratio of 16:9 is closer to the golden section and more comfortable for human eyes. In the design of TFT LCD products, H (horizontal) is generally used to represent the length and V (vertical) is used to represent the width.
3、 Active display area: the effective display area refers to the total area of the screen that can be displayed by TFT LCD. Knowing the display size and aspect ratio of TFT LCD, the specific length and width of the effective display area can be calculated by using the Pythagorean law.
4、 Number of pixels: the resolution of TFT LCD indicates the number of luminous points that can be used for picture display in the effective display area. The luminous points in TFT LCD are called pixels. The resolution is generally expressed in the form of multiplication, such as the resolution of 1024 * 768, where 1024 represents the number of pixels displayed in the horizontal direction of the effective display area and 768 represents the number of pixels displayed in the vertical direction. The resolution reflects the total number of pixels in the effective display area. The higher the resolution, the higher the resolution of the picture. Generally, the human eye is more sensitive to the number of pixels in the vertical direction. With higher vertical resolution, the definition of the picture is higher.
5、 Pixel pitch: pixel pitch is the distance between two adjacent pixels in the effective display area of TFT LCD, that is, the minimum length of pixel repetition unit. The pitch of TFT LCD is fixed, and the pitch is calculated by dividing the panel size by the resolution. The fineness of the picture is determined by the pixel pitch. The smaller the pixel pitch, the finer the picture. A more accurate indicator of picture fineness is PPI (pixel per inch) value or dpi (dots per inch) value, that is, the number of pixels in the unit size. High precision TFT LCD display has high PPI value.
6、 Power consumption: the power consumption of TFT LCD is mainly the power consumption of backlight, accounting for about 90%. Reducing power consumption is the focus of the future development of TFT LCD.
7、 Life time: the service life of TFT LCD mainly depends on the service life of the illuminant, and the unit is hours (HRS). Generally speaking, there is no problem with using TFT LCD for tens of thousands of hours. It can be used for about 10 years if it is used for 5 hours a day. The service life of TFT LCD is also called mean time between failures (MTBF), which is calculated according to the action experiment of high temperature and high humidity. This is a reliability experiment to accelerate life.
